PS2 Pro Logic II over analog?

I was doing some reading on the Dolby website, and apparently the Gamecube transmits Pro Logic II encoding over analog cables. Does the PS2 do the same thing or is it digital only?

My understanding is it is only via a digital connection, which is the only audio connection I use for it.

I think the receiver can just use teh internal processing and get you PLII.

I have experienced the Game cube one. It was like real surround sound, or of analogue outputs.

I think my receiver is PLI only (found out after I started this thread), so I guess it won't matter. It still has a gaming sound field, so I'm not at a complete loss. Analog or digital, I can still set it up for PLI or virtual surround fields too.

On another note, do receivers these days have the ability to share an analog and digital connection on the same input, as long as both sources are not active? I'm already using the analog connections for tape & TV (both have optical ins), and the coaxial for DVD. I was thinking if I were able to, I could try to connect the PS2 concurrently with either the tape or TV to upgrade the sound of it.

Yes, receivers have a digital input format that usuallly defaults to 'auto', which means it will detect the format automatically.

If there is a digital sigal present, it uses the digital input; if there is no digital signal, but there is an analog signal, it uses the analog input; if both digital and analog signals are present, it chooses the digital input.

So if you were to connect a dvd player to the dvd input digitally and connect the ps/2 to the same dvd input using an analog connection, as long as the digital input format setting is set to 'auto' you could switch between the two components.
