Are there any great and proven subwoofer kits out there that you guys have tried?

What commercial subwoofers are they comparable to?

Thanks

Check out Parts Express, they have plenty of sub kits that are well known.

You could also check out the rythmik audio servo kits. I was gonna go this route before tc sounds lured me in with their tc12 oem blowout.

The Rythmic kit is certainly the one I favored the most since it is the least labor and engineering extensive way of getting into a DIY sub but the 15" servo kit is already more than $500 which does not include the enclosure.
This may sound inexpensive as compared to the available commercial offerrings but I just discovered in reading more about subs that there's one coming out within 3 months (i hope it's true) which will be priced at $599. This was supposedly designed by somebody held in high regard in the audio world and makes me put a "hold" on this project.

Wow that house wrecker seems to be an awesome way to really get into DIY assuming the claims are true.
