Pin connectors seem to be the standard because people like terminations and believe they ar esuperior to bare wires but I prefer well-twisted bare copper wire for this particular type of connection.
Why, you might ask?
If you look at the connector, you'll see a hole with a "jaw" that clamps down on what's inserted into it.
Copper is malleable and this allows it to be somewhat "compressed" by the force of the spring-loaded clips pushing down on it and therefore making a more solid contact by conforming to the shape of the "jaws" that hold it in place. Pin clips are hard and don't respond to that force.
