Proper useage and hookup?

What is the correct way of using a Monster Power AVS2000 with one of their surge-protectors, say an HTS5100? Do you plug in all your AV equipment into the HTS and then plug the HTS into the AVS? Looking to do an upgrade on AV equipment and also want to address the AC power as well.

Thanks

You must have really bad power coming in!

First, Have you already purchased these? If not look at APC AV H15 Home Theater 1500VA Power Filter and Power Conditioner that Audioholics sells for $149 through Amazon.

Do you really have that much variance in your voltage? and need to buy an AVS2000?
If not, I would just go with the HTS5100. I don't see anyway you would need both and the AVS2000 costs significantly more.

Monster stuff works pretty good but it is overpriced.

Good Luck!

I currently have an HTS2500 that I picked up several years ago for $100 and I have an opportunity to get a NIB AVS2000 for a great price. But I agree Monster retail prices are crazy :eek: !! But on the pre-owned market you can find some pretty good deals. As for needing one I don't really know but I will say that in my area we have lots of brown outs and such especially in the summer months. As for voltage fluxuation's I don't know for sure.

So be it! A great price on the NIB AVS2000 is still a lot a $$$, but if you have fluxuations and brownouts then is is probably a good deal. I am not sure the order matters, but I would connect the NIB AVS2000 first then plug the HTS2500 into it. Again with the NIB AVS2000 the HTS2500 won't have any or very little work to do; i.e. it might be possibly redundant

GoodLuck!

This is why I ask about the usage. The HTS2500 is really just a noise filter and a surge protector. The AVS however is more of a power conditioner and voltage stabilizer if I understand correctly ( although it might also do some noise filtering are well ).

The power conditioner/voltage regulator device must be connected directly to the wall outlet. It's ok to plug a simple surge protector into the power conditioner but not the other way around.

APC has some technical articles on this topic on their website if you want to check them out but the short answer is that the surge suppressor is way too slow and lets through too much voltage for the power conditioner to recognize a spike.

Hello. Hope this isn't a little too off topic as this is my first time on the board. I also have the AVS2000 and the Belkin PF60. I plugged everything into the PF60 and then the PF60 into the AVS2000.

On the PF60, there is a voltage display and it shows 121.9v. After turning the AVS2000 on, the voltage on the PF60 still shows 121.9v. I also tried the other outlets and the voltage still remains the same. Am I doing anything wrong? Is my PF60 broken?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Were you expecting the display to show exactly 120v?

Automatic voltage regulation does not hold the voltage at an exact value. It has a threshold (+ or - some percentage) and only when the voltage rises above or falls below that range will it kick in and adjust the voltage. It doesn't sound like there is anything wrong with either unit.

Hi MDS. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I was expecting it to show 120v since I plugged it into the avs2000. Since the avs2000 was correcting the voltage, I thought the pf60 would reflect that also. I am completely new to this and I think it shows.

Also, do u think I should connect my power and pre-amp to the avs2000 or to the pf60? Thanks for again for your help.
