Propaganda for Kids

I don't identify with any political party, and garbage like this is part of the reason. I love and respect personal liberty, and that's something that neither party in power can stand. I'm all for freedom of speech, and therefore begrudgingly will do nothing to stop the printing of this book. Still, even looking at the sample pages makes me feel ill. I can't believe people willfully poison the minds of their children with propaganda like this. Well, almost can't believe. I've seen some comparable examples of religion being forced on children, but that's for another thread.

Oh, and for the record, please don't turn this into a "BLAME THE LIBERALS/"SECULAR PROGRESSIVES"/ANYTHING LEFT OF GW" fest. I think we can all agree that propaganda is trash, no matter what the source.

Thinkprogress tends to do a decent job of exposing BS in the media and current government. That said, I can't stand it when they embark on their own propaganda tirades like this. It seems they are compelled to think sometimes that anyone associated with the Democratic Party can do no wrong, which is completely untrue. They also tend to go off the deep end when anyone challenges or makes fun of a Democrat or Democratic candidate. Realistically, Hillary is a terrible candidate. She's not a leader, she wants to take away civil rights (different ones than the Bush administration), and she likes to waste government money on things like investigating video games. She has only achieved her current status by riding Slick Willy's coattails, and that's just sad.

As for Gravel, he just happens to be associated with the Democratic party. The vast majority of his ideas hail from Libertarian and classic conservative ideas. Add that to the fact that he isn't afraid to express his opinion or call people on the BS they try to pull and you get a damn good candidate in my book. Oh, and don't forget that he's intelligent, articulate, and willing and able to give a straight answer to questions, not a politician's answer.

And Buckeye, I'm not a socialist. I think a small amount of socialism can be a good thing for our society, but definitely not to the level the Democrats do.

Jaxvon,

I like you man....well, except for the Michigan part.

I just thought it was funny that you prefaced your post with denial of being neither a leftist or righty, but then you link to leftist websites in your signature. I'm betting you have a bunch of others bookmarked too. Ya know, like media matters, daily KOS, etc, etc, etc.....

Not that there is anything wrong with that....LOL

I just thought your denial was funny when taken into context with your Signature.

Hah, you should know better, people in power only share what they don't want/need.

Books like this and the majority of political bumper stickers are why vastly under qualified people make it into office while there are candidates out there who could really make a difference using their knowledge rather than quotes and BS.

I grew up in the third most conservative city in the nation, at the time at least, and the majority of people I went to high school with vote straight republican, not because they know the issues, most couldn't be bothered to read the paper, but because thats how they were raised. I guess their parents read them. Why daddy is a republican.

Fortunately, some parents, like mine, have the sense to raise their kids to think for themselves, the others can buy their children books like those.

No different than crap like this...

Left Behind: The Kids Series Books

In one shocking moment, millions around the globe disappear. Those left behind face an uncertain future—especially the kids who now find themselves alone. As the world falls in around them, Judd, Vicki, Lionel, and the others must band together to find faith and fight the evil forces that threaten their lives! These books are great for kids 10-14.

----

Um... If they were "left Behind" then it's already too late isn't it?

I'm going to venture a guess that they vote the ticket because they do know where the Dems and GOP stand on any given issue. I vote the straight ticket too!! I do it because I disagree with most every position the democrats stand on, so voting in general elections for me..... is easy. Primaries now.... that's where the homework comes into play.

I'm guessing they vote the ticket for the very same reasons. They may not agree or disagree with every position a party or candidate takes, but they vote the ticket because of where a party/person stands on the issues most important to them.

PS.... I almost forgot!! Yes, I've seen that book before. It's in the same vein as the "Penguin with 2 dads", etc, etc, etc.....

You'd actually be surprised. I've had political conversations, if you could call them that, with some of them. Two of the handful ended on "BECAUSE BUSH IS MY HOMEBOY, THATS WHY!" I kid you not. The others were a little more informed but not much. Many of the people I am talking about have ideas of where each side stands but don't know much. In the end many see it as dems are socialists while repubs are for a free govenrment end of story.

I'm unsure whether or not that book is meant to be taken seriously.

Hi Buckeye_nut,

How can politics accurately be divided into left and right catergories? For instance, some 'hawks' like Paul Wolfowitz used to be democrats, and neoconservative ideas have attracted communist thinkers, e.g. Christopher Hitchens, and probably the supreme example - Tony Blair, a neocon who was leader of the Labour Party!

Well, I only have to hate you during football season. Speaking of which, I was pissed that we didn't meet in the championship...but oh well. :D

As for my websites that I frequent, it's really only ThinkProgress. I find media matters to be worthless propaganda. I occasionally read stuff on Daily KOS, but that's only when I find interesting stories on digg. But yeah, it doesn't really matter.
