Programmable IR extender

Wondering if there is a product out there that can receive an IR signal but then transform the output of that signal as a completely different IR command from a different device?

No.

IR extenders don't work that way.

Control systems, on the other hand, have some options to do some pretty amazing things, but they must be programmed.

What is it, specifically, that you are trying to achieve?

I want to use my tv remote to control an old receiver. I like the interface on the TV and don't want to move to a universal. But the reciever is old but working fine. I just need volume up and down. Thought I could just use a couple of "do nothing" buttons on the tv remote with some kind of translator.

What kind of TV is it? Some have universal remote functions built in for other devices.

This one doesn't. Its a Sony x900h. I love the TV and the interface.

I've been having some garbage luck with equipment lately. My trusty RX-V663 died. So I plugged in an even older yamaha receiver I had laying in storage. Was fine for a day or two until my Harmony Campanion died. I don't really want to go buy another universal remote... especially since Harmony is getting out of that market.

But dang does it get old using a second remote just to mess with the volume.

This TV/remote is designed entirely around using modern equipment and really requires use of ARC if you intend to use the remote that comes with the TV.

If you want any other option, you will need a universal remote.

ONE potential option is to use a ARC receiver with audio out, but that's not going to give you proper surround sound into the system. It's really not an ideal solution.

Yeah. Everything is pointing toward needing a new receiver. Just seems like now isn't the right time to be in the market. Was worth a shot in asking.
