Hi . I just got a Samsung theater in a box unit ht-tq72 and I connectted it toa 4 year old Sony 32 in flat screen . I used the component cables , red blue and green , and when I go to play a dvd I get lines from the top corner of the screen to the bottom corner . . There is good sound but you can't see the picture. I tried out he audio component cable and I did get a good picture . The Samsung says on it that it is a progressive scan . Whats going on .

The Sony is a 32" flat screen but does that mean it is a digital TV (LCD, DLP, Plasma, etc)? If it is a CRT, it doesn't support progressive scan and you have to change the output of the DVD player to interlaced.

Sometimes the setting for interlaced vs progressive is in the menu settings for the player and sometimes it is a physical switch on the back of the dvd player.

By audio component cable, I would assume you mean the composite video cable (yellow jack) and only interlaced video can be sent over composite so maybe the player automatically configures itself based on which video output you are using.

On the bottom left corner of page 15 in the manual, there is a note that component video is only output in 480p. On a CRT TV, you have to use the composite (yellow) video output.
