Problems in integrating powered monitors into a home theater

I recently purchased KEF LS-50 wireless powered monitors to improve the quality of 2 channels music due to their good DACS and amplifiers which proved less expensive than acquiring new separates (DAC + amplifier + speakers). Unfortunately, integrating the said powered speakers into my home theater has proven difficult. In essence, my aim was to hook-up the powered monitors as if it they were power ampIifiers by using the pre-amp outputs of my AV integrated amp (DENON AVR-X3400H). My goal is to use the powered speakers as the front right and left and thus reduce the power demands on the AV amp.

Unfortunately, the integration has proven difficult. Firstly, I had to contend with a ground loop problem. The latter was resolved by reading information on this forum. Thanks!

Secondly, it is difficult to reach the 75db test tone for Audessy calibration. I have to drive the powered monitors to more than 75% of its output (which adds audible distortion through RCA input) and still add 3.5 db boost on the pre-amp out to achieve the 75db tone.

I'm wondering about the implications of driving the powered monitors at this level on long term reliability (heat dissipation) vs using higher boost on pre-amp out, which could add clipping at the pre-out? Also wondering, if the pre-amp outs might be the culprits. Could it be they are not powerful enough? The monitors can play loudly enough through the other digital inputs.

I'd think it's simply a gain setting on the active speaker's amp, and you simply set it where it needs to be, even if at full (can you explain more about the distortion you're hearing?). Are there guidelines with in the speakers' manual for setting the gain? What sensitivity are the amps in the speakers? Could be your pre-out level is lower than ideal for the speakers' amps...
