Problems getting 1080p from ps3 through Sony STR-DN1040

Hello,
I'm at the "a little knowledge is dangerous" stage. I have direct tv and PS3 connected to a recently purchased Sony STR-DN1040 receiver, which is connected to an Epson 5030ub projector. For some reason the ps3 won't output 1080p (PS3 won't even let me select 1080p as an accepted resolution). Previous to the sony receiver I had a Samsung HW-D7000 receiver and the PS3 1080p worked fine. The Directv 1080p currently works fine, so I'm at a loss trying to figure out where the issue is coming from. I've tried to reset factory settings and start from scratch, but so far no luck. Any thoughts and/or have people run into this? Thanks.

It isn't necessary to post the same thing in many different forums here. Did you check the video output settings on the 1040? What material are you using to check 1080p? PS3 games are almost always 720p, so you'd need some 1080p native material to test.

The PS3 setup/startup menu kicks me out when i attempt to select 1080p as one of the video settings. Regarding the video setting on the receiver I'm a little frustrated - I haven't found a way to drill down to the resolutions for the video inputs yet (just dowloaded the more extensive manual yesterday). I am hoping that's the answer.

I posted in a few different threads because I wasn't sure if it was a projector or receiver issue, but I understand the push to minimize duplicate posts. Thank you!

I would look for a "direct" or bypass mode on the AVR to let it simply pass the HDMI signal through unprocessed. That should tell you something. Next question is, does it work correctly if you bypass the AVR and go direct to the TV?

Well I didn't get to the bypass part but here's an update:

I was setting up a Samsung Blu-ray player through my receiver and going through the options/settings. When I selected the "HDMI deep color" option the screen went blank. Light bulb (in my head) went on, so I went back to the PS3 and de-selected the "HDMI deep color option" there, and presto, the 1080p works.

So my next question is, is the HDMI deep color option worth having? Does it make that much of a difference or is it the equivilent of rust proofing on a car? If it is worthwhile, it's obviously either my receiver or projector that's not allowing both 1080p and HDMI deep color. I'm inclined to think it's the receiver, as again the PS3 worked with the Samsung receiver, but like I said a little knowledge...

Thanks for all your help!

No, you don't need that on. More often than not with this sort of issue, it involves turning off something like that I've found with the PS3.
