Problematic Denon DVD3930CI - Thoughts, please

My 3930CI is displaying a number of problems. It is connected via HDMI (straight to monitor, audio is via coax via AVR)

1) video freezes during DVD playback, audio continues
2) video artifacts (seems to be something associated w/ HDMI) during playback, that once start, don't go away, and I must power off my system, and power back on
3) player does not turn off (seems to always be associated with #1 or #2, must do a "hard" power off, via smaller button that does not respond to IR, then after a few seconds the power button will respond)
4) disc drawer does not open, and I must perform the "hard" power off (as described in #3 above) for the "open" button to respond

Sometimes a disc will play with no issues, sometimes the same disc, will result in 1 and 2. I'm trying to identify the cause - disc, player, hdmi cable, hdmi board (that I installed into my monitor). Sometimes I'll watch 2-3 DVD's in a row (over several days), with no problems. #'s 1 and 2 seem to be caused perhaps by HDMI cable or board? Could HDMI problems also cause #'s 3 and 4? Or does this seem to be a problem w/ the player?

Beware folks, FYI, I bought it on ButterflyPhoto.com. :(

Thanks for your feedback.

Sounds like a defective unit, return to reseller. At all cost make Butterfly Photo replace the unit. Since Butterfly Photo is not an authorized reseller there might be no warranty from Denon.

I purchased a new 3930CI, and will install by tomorrow. Eagerly looking forward to testing, and see if the problems described above are gone (I hope, I hope, I hope!!!). :D

ButterflyPhoto.com won't give me a refund, only replace my misbehaving unit. As soon as I install my new player, I'll return the bad unit to ButterflyPhoto, receive a new replacement unit, and then sell it on eBay.

I did confirm the unexpected behavior is not caused by the source (DVD), or the HDMI cable. Only things remaining are the player or HDMI board I installed. After speaking w/ Panasonic tech support, I don't believe the HDMI board is the cause - probably the player.

I've watched a couple movies with my replacement player, and it hasn't yet displayed these behaviors. Yippeeee!!!!! I find I am again surprised by the significant drop in PQ. I have an appt with the same ISF guy to have it tweaked, but he says he didn't do much to fine-tune the original player. So I wouldn't think the PQ would be that different, unless the players are displaying significantly different PQ settings. They must be.
