Hi all, I am having some issues with my rx-v2500, I was waching a movie yesterday when suddenly the power whet out, my no break didn't worked and for two ours I had no power, I pulled out the breaks so when the power returned it won't burn my equipment. When the power came in again I continued waching my movie and then suddenly my receiver turns off with the circuitry protection activated. When I turn the power on again, if I have the volume down there is no problem when I start turning the volum up it happens again, as if the cables are touching themselves. I have tried the cable checkup but from the begining it turns off again.
I have been using my receiver for six months now without issues, I have connected some Kef speakers with monster cable THX, I really don't think it is the cables are touching each other.
Is there a simple fix for this or do you recomend I take it to Yamaha to take a look?

Could be two things according to the manual on page 92 and bottom of page 94.

1- The protection circuitry has been activated.

Cause

This unit has been exposed to a strong external electric shock.

Remedy

Set this unit in stanby mode, disconnect power cable, plug it back in after 30 sec, then use normally.

2-This unit suddenly turns into standby mode.

Cause

The internal temperature becomes too high and the overheat protection circuitry has been activated.

Remedy

Wait 1 hour until the unit cools down and turn it back on.

You could also try to run the fan continuously instead of kicking in automatically. Is your receiver well ventilated ? See page 81 "Advanced setup menu" for Fan Mode. If the problem persists, you will probably have to take it in for repairs.

Hope this helps.

Sure sounds like a power spike damaged something in the receiver.

why didn't the surge protector protect it?
I don't see anywhere the OP mention the use of a surge protector. Pretty common having a decent one considering the investment in your equipment, but sometimes it can be overlooked. Hopefully not in this case... -TD

Well if it's the case that it is cooked.. you could still get it warrantied (just don't say anything about it getting cooked) Also it'll be covered by home owners insurance if it's cooked.

does it do it with all speaker cables unplugged?

I had a similar problem with my Yammie 1400. The solution was a full resetting. Send an Email to Yamaha tech-support asking how to reset you Yammie.

It's been over 2 weeks. Was there a resolution to this yet? Any luck?
