Problem with Yamaha RX-V1400

I was putting my system back together again and have decided to take advantage of the zone 2 and it's amp along with connecting a pair of speakers to the presence jacks on the receiver. I got no sound after configuring the remote to operate zone 2. Then I read that only analog can be sent to these speakers so I connected the dvd/cd player's audio out to the receiver analog audio in and I keep tripping the protection circuitry!! If I disconnect the RCA plugs from the receiver's analog in's then no tripping but certainly no sound?? Any ideas out there on what's happening?

Do you have a short in the wires to the speakers in Zone 2?

I checked these just before logging on here tonight...and you are correct! The presence inputs are not spaced far enough apart to accomodate the newly attached banana plugs which have metal sleeves...so back to bare wire and no problem!
