Problem with Pioneer 563A Universal player

Have just reassembled the system and have not had this problem in the past. Player is connected with the 6 analog cables and also an optical cable:

Using multi-channel on the receiver I can get all channels when playing SACD and DVD-A as it should be, but turning off multi-channel on the RX-V1400 receiver and playing standard CD I get nothing...with it turned on and playing standard CD I get both front channels only and receiver is set for surround sound. I have played with all the Pioneer audio settings and nothing makes a difference.

I have swapped out the optical cable and same results, tried different inputs on the receiver and no change. Any thoughts? Perhaps the optical out on the player is bad?(I do see the red beam of light in the optical cable end). Should I connect using digital coax?

My Panasonic DVD player that we use primarily for movies works fine so I don't think it's the receiver?

On my 578a I had a similar problem, it was something in the setup turned off, I forget what. It was under initial settings for audio, something about output.

Also, make sure your reciever has the optical input selected for cd/dvd. Definately try the digital coax and see if you get the same results.

Good luck

Just in case somebody else has a similar Pioneer model and runs into this...it was resolved by using the set up navigation section(ie; set up for dummies!)...answer some questions and the unit makes the choices. I still don't know what I missed doing this manually as I went back through and it seems it's all the same as before the navigation entires...but in any case, it now works as expected.
