Problem with new HDTV setup

Hello. I am new here. We have a Sony receiver that has worked fine with our Bose 901s, digital cable, and previous television. We recently purchased a Samsung LCD HDTV. Upon doing so, we had to upgrade our cable box to one that receives the HDTV channels. Since that has been hooked up, we get this horrible buzzing/humming out of the 901s. It is only when we are watching things out of that cable box, though. We hear things just fine when we watch movies. My husband has checked his setup over and over and everything seems to be right. Are there any other ideas on what could be wrong? Do we need a receiver that can handle HDMI? This was our first thought, but we aren't sure since the speakers work fine with the tv when watching movies. HELP!!! Hope to hear something soon. Thanks in advance!

Seriously, I have no life.
How are you switching between the cable box and you DVD player? If you are not unplugging any cables then I doubt this is a ground loop, but they are fickle, so it could be.

Please perform one test. Have the set up connected to the cable box and disconnect the box from the cable system. Does the buzz go away? If it does, then it is a ground loop. Then your cable box will have to have the ground isolated from the cable system. You might get away with using an optical connection to the receiver for audio, if your receiver has optical inputs. How are you connecting everything now, and with what cables?

Please let us know that information before we speculate further.

Thank You So Much!!!

I know it has taken me a few days to get back on here, but we had to narrow down the grounding problems. Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. The TV was not properly grounded and something was going on with the grounding loop. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! Y'all are awesome!
