Problem with my Yamaha RX-V2600 on display "L" "R"

Maybe someone can help me here... I just purchased the receiver and am in the process of setting it up, so Its most likely something I'm doing wrong (I Hope). The receiver will only display all channels when I'm playing a DVD in Dolby Digital mode.. When I switch to CBL/SAT or DTV box to watch a movie from my sattelite or Digital cable (Not HD) , it displays just "L" "R" even though it says its playing in Dolby Prologic, PLII or any other Genre.. Most of the sound comes out of my Front speakers.. I get very minimal LFE.. I tried resetting the receiver, but had no luck in setting it up to display "R" "C" "L" and LFE in Dolby Prologic or DTS mode..... I know my Speakers are working fine and the Movies are sending out LFE because I watched them with my previous sony receiver and had Lots of LFE signal... Not exactly sure what to do now, seeing this is my first Yamaha and I'm not that familiar with it..
Any help would be appreciated.

Note.. My satelitte receiver is connected to the Yamaha receiver via Optical and S-Video cables.

asus999,

Make sure the receiver is receiving a bitstream 5.1 signal, and that you are set to auto or coax/opt to have the 2600 process it.

The fact you are seeing an L and R only indicates you are only receiving a 2.0 signal, vs. a 5.1 one. The indicators show what's coming in, not going out.

When I get a Dolby Digital signal, that's what's displayed on the unit. If it's a 2.0 signal the unit displays Dolby Pro Logic or PLII. Both Pro Logic and any of the DSP modes will upconvert a 2.0 channel to 5.1, which is what I assume your Sony was doing.

You need the check the setup menu of that sat box and make sure it is set to stream out Dolby Digital 5.1. Most all have a setting for 2 channel or 5.1. Mine does. Then make sure you are watching a broadcast that is in 5.1 go to one of the movie channels. Not all broadcast stuff is 5.1 some will be 2.0

Defective unit.

Thanks for you help... It however turned out to be a defective unit.. It was not producing any Sub from the Optical inputs.. Brought it back to the store, they confirmed it, gave me another unit, works just fine now.. Now when it converts the 2.0 signal to Dolby Prologic etc.. I get lots of Sub sound..

Thanks.
