Problem with my B&W ASW675 sub...

This is my setup and I have been having a bit of an issue with the sub. It is currently being driven at -12dB off my amp (the max attenuation) and I've got the volume at about 1/3rds up (not even 50%). Phase 0deg and EQ on setting B. I've tried setting A...

The thing starts to rattle at a certain point, and rather than being a SMOOOTH rummble it actually RATTTTTTTTLES...

This is driving me a bit mad and now I tend to just turn the sub off...as it's much worse having it rattle...

Any advice would be great! I've taken it off the UPS and got in on the mains as I was concerned that the UPS could be limiting the current draw. Still the same result!

THANKS! :)

Cheers
Mike

It sounds like a basic "sub on a wooden floor issue". I had this same issue and thought my sub was blown but it turned out that it was just "walking" on the floor. Stick a throw rug under it and see if it corrects the issue. If it does, you can get an isolation pad for it.

Thanks Greg; you might be right. The floor here is more or less granite (trazzo) and it could be walking. With the rubber mat it is vibrating less..so I will try and find a thick rug and test it in the morning.

That said, how would you know if the sub is 'blown'? Hard to say if this is the case hrm....

I just got in touch with B&W. What has happened is that the diaphragm rim (rubber) has come off the 'adhesive' holding it to the frame. Basically, the rim has been RATTLING against the case.

They should be emailing me as to what adhesive to use and in the event I cannot source the same stuff, they would probably send me some.

Glad this is sorted. Oh yea, I took the entire driver out of the cabinet today...impressive stuff..wow it weighs a bomb. I've taken the amp out before in 2005 when I sent it for a free replacement...
