Problem with DVD player.

This might not be the right forum. But here goes. I have a I have a JVC DVD player. It will play MP3s and VCDs that I burn with Nero. But when I put a DVD from the store into it. It does not even see a DVD in it. I refuses to play them. But will play what I burn with Nero. Go figure? Any ideas on what it is?

Are the store bought dvds you are trying dual layer? I have seen some JVC dvd players that have no problem reading single layered discs (most dvd-r), yet not even recognize a dual layer disc. See if you can find any dvds that are single layer* and see if they work.

*Usually on the back of the dvd case at the bottom it will tell you if a disc is dual layered.
