Problem with Denon 2807 and 2 channel PS3 source

My PS3 ( CECHE01 MG 8GB) which was just released this month seems to have a problem playing any 2 channel stero media (cd, Mp3's, etc. in a form that allows Dolby pro logic IIx or DTS Neo 6 by my Denon 2807 AVR. Connection is by HDMI, which Sony says is required to reproduce SACD's Sacd's and Blu-Ray reproduce properly.

What appears to be the problem is that the PS3 outputs 2 channel sound in a 7 channel discreet PCM format. The Denon then locks up to this, but only plays the R & L

channels, and prevents the Denon from doing any Dolby or Dts processing. The same material played in a Philips DVP5983 DVD/CD player works fine.

If I disable all PS3 digital sound formats except Dolby, DTS and the 2 mandatory 2 channel PCM The Dolby processing works, but of course then neither Blu-Ray or SACD work as they require 5 or 7 channel PCM.

Sony is totally unhelpful, and wants to blame the problem entirely on Denon. Denon says they are fimiliar with the problem and believes the PS3 does not recognize it must output something other than 5-7 channel PCM when playing 2 channel media if Dolby processing is wanted. I 've looked a lot, but if there is correspondence on the net about this, I've missed it. The Denon engineer says Sony could fix this with a firmware change. Of the two opinions, it seems my evidence favors Denon.

Has anyone else seen this problem, or could enlignment me? Right now I am using the Philips for all 2 channel media and the PS3 for 5 & 7 channel PCM.

It's workable, but I cant put my CD/Ps3 collection on the Sony hard drive if I want it to sound good, it's kind of awkward switching back and forth, and makes my equipment rack a bit crowded.

Thanks!

So let me see if I understand. You have the PS3 set to output up to 7.1 and when you put an SACD in the system but only want to play the 2ch track it still plays all 7 channels? Or the receiver tell you that all 7 channels are on when actually 2 are playing?

The latter, clearly.

Isn't it a good option to connect the PS3 and receiver simultaneously through HDMI (for multichannel) and 'RCA' analog audio for stereo, just switching inputs on the receiver depending on the media played?
