Problem with AVR switching audio

My Sony AVR STR-DN840 is HDMI cabled to STB, HDTV, BD and speakers.

All are controlled by Harmony One remote.

A problem has occurred this week that I do not understand. After briefly watching a TV show incoming from the STB, the audio on the Sony AVR switches from SAT to TV and thus, no sound is heard on the speakers.

What device is doing this, the STB or AVR? I have checked the Harmony One remote and have insured that the programming does not show TV, only SAT as the primary incoming source for AVR and HDTV.

How do I correct this?

Assuming it worked prior I'd think it was a glitch in the harmony. After the state of the remote and the devices are all set to off does it repeat itself? Does it occur when you use the OEM remotes?

Thank you for responding.

I powered each device separately using the OEM remotes for each (STB, AVR and HDTV). Audio came on through SAT/CATV as originally setup. One minute later, audio display on AVR switched to TV and sound no longer heard through speakers.

The problem appears to be localized on the Sony AVR. I then checked the settings for input via the HDMI from the STB to the AVR and then the settings on the AVR for sound going to the HDTV. Settings were correct - nevertheless, the audio switched from SAT/CATV to TV.

What do I do now? Is the Sony AVR NG and should be replaced? Or is there a specific thing for me to do?

lovinthehd, thank you!

I turned the HDMI control to OFF from the AVR settings menu and powered on and off each device using the OEM remotes. I did so for two minutes each time and did not encounter a loss of audio.

I am curious to know why the problem occurred when no settings on any device had been changed since the original setup was done months ago.

At least for now, thanks to you, the problem seems to be solved.

Thanks again.

Mine did that from the get-go (and is a fairly common problem), why something changed months later for you I dunno. Maybe if you do a soft reset (unplug the units for a while) and start over with the settings it may do what it had been doing previously? Personally I don't use ARC so don't need the hdmi control at all, I use a Harmony remote in macro mode to turn stuff on/off....

Seriously, I have no life.

I would also call Sony about this issue. Maybe they are interested in correcting this system flaw?

There's little standardization in the HDMI-CEC protocol, which causes differing brands not to always work well together; from what I've seen the manufacturers aren't all that interested in making their stuff work seamlessly with gear from outside the brand....
