problem hooking up my infocus x2 to my Onkyo HT-RC160

When I hook it up to my Infocus x2 via hdmi cables only. It won't display a picture. But if I by-pass the Onkyo Ht-RC 160 it works out fine. Any idea why it won't work through the receiver. I am confused and have a lot of money wrapped up into everything for it not to display in HD with HD sound. I know it will only be 480p but the HD sound is what I am going after. I am looking to exchange it for a Infocus screen play 4805 with the HDCP chip in it. Would that make the differance. And I also read something about the Onkyo not down converting. Can anyone help me out with this?

That projector does not have HDMI only DVI. DVI is not a two way communication. With the new HDMI formats, I bet you don't get a picture with going HDMI to DVI, as the HDCP codes are more stringent now, and I bet have to have a two way handshake to certify.

For the new formats you need HDMI version 1.3 for best results.

You shouldn't have a problem. Maybe your output settings are wrong on the receiver.

Can you get the setup screen on the projector?

FYI I use an old PJ and it looks as good as any LCD tv i've seen.

Are you saying that you can run ab HDMI cable from the source directly to the projector, it works? I don't see where that projector allows for an HDMI input.

IIRC, the only common video between the source and projector is composite or component, but few sources allow HD to be passed through the latter.

You seem to be SOL as to HDMI since receivers don't "downscale" to a lower quality audio cable.

Some DVI connections aren't HDCP compliant, but some are. I know mine is as I use it everyday.

Still that PJ is only 800x 600 native. If you want to get a cheap used PJ get an Optoma EP719.

It's what I use.

x2 and HT-RC160 Onkyo receiver

I sent my x2 back for an infocus 4805 with HDCP. I hope my Onkyo Ht-RC160 will produce a picture now. I have to use an Hdmi to DVI adapter. I got a great picture when I went straight from the blu-ray to the projector. But I got sound and no picture to the X2 from the onkyo. But I found out it doesn't have an HDCP in the X2 but the 4805 does. I just want the HD sound. I have 10 inch Cerwin Vega fronts and a Cerwin Vega center and 4 bose cubes and I built my own sub in the ceiling 15 inch. The systems really sounds awesome almost better than the theater. But I could get better surround with HD sound coming through the system. That is why I am so addimate about getting it hooked up right. And I am tired of hooking and unhooking cables to make different things work. The receiver is built to run everything. Thanks for the different ideas. I will try them out.

How much are you paying for these. It better not be more than 200 or 300 dollars.

You can get a 720p home theater PJ new for around 500.
