I'd lean towards the NAD. The Rotel doesn't even have HDMI. Neither of the others will transcode composite, s-video or component to HDMI.

Have you considered the Anthem AVM-40 + the Rotel amps? Do they have to match?

I'm not real happy with my Denon/Rotel combo. It starts to sound harsh before I reach the (very) loud volume I want. It will not play as cleanly/loudly as the Denon/McIntosh combo I tried. The Mac was only 105 wpc, but that's 1970 vintage Mac autoformer power.

I do not know wherein the problem lies, but I hesitate to recommend the combo until I find out. YMMV, as always.

I feel just the opposite really. Last weekend I had two friends over and we cranked both music (mainly) and movies. Both friends commented how loud my system played without sounding harsh or fatiguing. I think room treatments are a must.

I use a Denon 3806 as a pre-pro and a Rotel 1092 for the fronts and a rmb-1095 for center/surround duty.

What denon really needs to make is a pre/pro.

Everyone thats using their higher end recievers just for that duty is paying alot of money for half the crap in the reciever they dont even use. Doesnt make much sense to me from a practicality standpoint.

I'm with you, Haoleb, seems like a waste. The admin showed us a Denon pre/pro, I think, but it was absurdly highend reference stuff........I'd like to see a prepro that handles just audio......leave the video to the player and the TV...........

Yep, as recommended in the other thread, it's the Cary Cinema 11.

If the OP isn't interested in video processing, I'd recommend it all the way around, or with the amp of his choice.

Dang, I just knew I should have gotten the RMB-1095 when I had the chance, but I was trying so hard to be responsible for once. Now it's coming back to burn me.

This could be your speakers, and more than likely is. Small speakers like the ERAs may suffer dynamic compression at higher levels, after all, they are small. No matter the amplification I would venture to say it would have the same affect.;)

Nah, the era rocked with the Mac amp as loud as I cared for and still sounded sweet. But the Mac wasn't mine and I had to give it back. It convinced me that I should go for separate amplification, but the Rotel is not replicating what the Mac could do, despite being rated slightly higher.

I'm telling you, that Mac 105wpc stereo amp was HEAVY. Heavier than the 5 channel RMB-1075 I think. It has to have quite a robust power supply and I think that may be the difference.

Oh, well your speakers aren't the easiest to drive either. Low impedance and low efficiency.:) The McIntosh is going to handle difficult speakers with much more finesse than Rotel.:)

Out of curiosity, what is the appeal or advantage of a $4-5K unit compared to a receiver (with pre outs if you like) at 1/4 the price?
