Heaven forbid the USA only pays benefits to it's legal citizens. Ya gotta also love the diatribe about how so many millions of legal citizens cannot prove their citizenship.....LOL

Same 'ol....same 'ol from the antique media. We all know what this is really about, and the antique-media needs to protect a US welfare policy that will pay anything to anyone at any time... citizen or not. The WAPO is appalled at the thought of denying government money to illegal aliens.

Ya gotta love how the WAPO openly vents it's far-left agenda without labeling it as such. For example, They can't even provide a liberal label for that Hillarycare-promoting socialist, Ron Pollack of Families USA.

Media Bias??.....no, of course not says the WAPO!

There is a valid concern for some people mentioned in the article. Although the smart-*** in me says that the World War I-era gentleman in the article probably won't be around much longer to use Medicaid anyway (I know, I'm a horrible person). However, instead of coming up with a viable solution, the first thing uttered out of the detractors is "This is a threat to millions".

Once again, a push to help curb fraud, save people money, and ensure that this will be around for the people who really need it, has been turned into an evil plan to hurt poor people.

The sob stories given as to why legal citizens cannot prove citizenship is purely liberal rhetoric.(translation=Rubbish) They act as if possessing a birth certificate is the only means to achieve that end.

Even a coma-patient laying in vegetative state in a hospital bed can get what they need to prove citizenship. It's should be of no surprise that every citizen who receives a government check has a caseworker assigned to them to aid in just that sort of thing:rolleyes:

They reported something that's happening and what concerned people are saying about it. Whoop-tee-doo.

Critics fear that the provision will have the unintended consequence of harming several million U.S. citizens who, for a variety of reasons, will not be able to produce the necessary paperwork. They include mentally ill, mentally retarded and homeless people, as well as elderly men and women, especially African Americans born in an era when hospitals in the rural South barred black women from their maternity wards.

...

One plaintiff is Alphonso DeShields, who was born in his parents' home in Spartanburg, S.C., a few months after World War I began. For five years, he has lived in a nursing home in Northwest Washington. He has a severe heart condition, cancer and other ailments.

"With respect to each of the documents" Medicaid would have him supply, the lawsuit states, "Alphonso DeShields possesses neither an original of such a document nor a copy of such a document certified by the original issuing agency."

...

Until now, Medicaid recipients have declared their citizenship, under penalty of perjury, without having to show evidence of it. States have been able to demand substantiation in suspicious cases. No longer will that process suffice.

New applicants will be affected immediately and will be denied benefits until they offer proof of citizenship. Current recipients will not have to back up their declarations until their first annual reenrollment, when they will have 45 to 90 days to do so, depending on their circumstances.
