How are you guys turning on your pro gear that lacks a 12v trigger or "signal on"?

Here is the only thing we are coming up with so far.

I just got one of these. I got mine open boxed on ebay for $65. Works like a champ.

Question for you guys: Is the trigger rather immediate, or is there some natural delay on the trigger? Are there any affordable items that can have some sort of adjusted delay? Just curious, thanks.

These are basically the same device, so you may as well get the least expensive one. If you have been thinking about getting a power conditioner, some have triggered receptacles. I don't know how you feel about conditioners, so how you do this is up to you but I like clean power, so that's how I would address it. $65 is about the least I have seen these at retail, though.

Here's Russound single outlet:

You could probably make one with a 12VDC or 24VDC relay, a 12VDC or 24VDC transformer, a project box and a short replacement power cord. Wouldn't be as small, though.

That unit is not sufficient. It is only capable of switching 10 amps. At minimum with an EP2500 15 amp switching should be used. Ideally, 20 amp, but since PDawg only has a 15 amp circuit there is no need to look for a 20 amp switch.

A 555 timer circuit can add delay for you. They're in just about every electronics circuit book used in the last 40 years. You can delay turn-on or off. They have been used extensively in car security for door entry delay, actuators and amp turn-on/off.

Oh. You know, something like a million dollars.

some of niles gear have adjustable delays.
after a very brief glance at the website, I noticed "convenience outlets", but clicking that gives me a failed web address. Thanks though.

Why "yikes"? It's not that many parts.

Actually, these are available from PAC and other companies that make accessories for car stereo and security. They're called "Pulse Stretchers" because you can take a short pulse and make it last for a mush longer time, determined by changing some small resistors and caps. I've seen them hold it for up to 5 minutes. They can also be made to delay the output. They're fairly inexpensive- more like a half million dollars.:D

To be honest, it's not really worth cobbling something together. Get the part numbers of the ones that will do the job and google for the best price. They're all basically the same and I know the Russound and Niles are the same.

The pro amps aren't as cheap as we think. You have to factor in the cost of some way to turn it on and off, the cost of bumping up the signal input from the AVR (ART Clean Box) and what ever you have to do to get rid of the ground loops.

At my old job, we used a few different Furman Conditioner/Sequencer's. PS-8R being one of them.

Yeah, but its go big or go home IMO.....

Maybe in the future someone will make some of these units with a 12v trigger built in... wouldn't that be nice...

Let me know which sub out there which offers an amp that has this kind of power that will accomplish what you have now in your home... The only one close I can think of is the F113, which has its limitations as JL chose to limit its footprint...

So there are drawbacks yes, but the rewards far outweigh overcoming those small technical difficulties... You easily spent 1/2 the price of a F113 and exceed its capabilities with ease, and double the performance of the Servo in SQ and output - would you agree...?

They aren't?

My cost, as a dealer, is higher than the link. There are plenty of models that do all of these things- it's just a matter of looking for them. One difference between consumer, commercial, Pro and Custom Integrator models is that Pro doesn't usually need 12V turn on, CI uses it all the time and consumer seldom does, unless it's used for a CI application and a lot of commercial equipment isn't considered "good enough" for Pro, Custom or consumer use. Some Pro models use signal sensing, which accomplishes the same thing but some don't like it because they think it alters the sound (it doesn't) or makes it less reliable (it doesn't).

Ok, the Xantech AC1 works great for turning the EP2500 on and off via 12v trigger and the ART Clean box DTI got rid of all ground loop issue. I have full control again via remote and the system is tight.

Thanks Andrew, Chris and all who have helped.
