Local dealer quoted me a price of 3000 for a set of paradym studio 100v5's.
As Howie Mandel would say,"Deal or no Deal?".
Me thinks thats a tad high:confused:

I have a formular which I use (Retail X 0.65), never more than that. That would be $1950.- for the speakers. That's a minimum profit for dealer of at least $450.-- or more, I think that' fair. Both sides shoud be happy.

I don't know what the retail price is, but IME, you should be able to get about 15% off (20% if it is open box/demo).

Interesting theory and not to start anything by any means. I have a couple of questions:
1. Are dealers still marking up speakers by 50%?
2. Who is paying for the shipping?
3. Are you willing to wait for a pair to be shipped in, or do you expect the dealer to have stock on hand?
4. Is the sales staff a bunch of teenagers or are they knowledgeable?

1.)Don't know
2.)I'll have to check
3.)Will wait if need be
4.)Not teenagers but not audiophile or videophile material either.More of a salesman than audio expert.

I can't get into any depht on pricing on this forum, but you would be blown away what some is this gear can be had for. For example a speaker that retails for 3K costs a dealer around 1.25K

Where did you hear this? Some speakers may cost that, but not many.

Unless any of you are in the business, you don't know the cost. Retail is one thing, MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) is another. Your idea that $450 profit on a pair of speakers that costs $1950 being fair may seem fair to you but if the dealer has a storefront, it's not going to make his nut. That's only just more than 19 margin points. Think about what you would guess his overhead to be and then double it if you want to know how much margin he needs before he makes one penny of profit.

If a dealer carries a brand that's sold on every corner and on the internet, he's a fool.
