I just got a pair of these for about 40$. 6ft in length, with self locking banana's. The wires are soldered, not screwed.

I use Monoprice for my cable needs as well. For instance, I put together some cables for my mains last weekend - 30' 6" total of 16 gauge wire with closed screw banana plugs. Doing the math, that came out to about $12 total. Cabling isn't something I bother spending much money on.

Anyways, hope your cables work out well for you.

For future reference check out.

It's way cheaper than that and really nicely done stuff.

I personally use monoprice.com for my cabling needs though.
12 ft of BJC twelve white and 4 pairs of locking banana plugs came out to $32.88...I don't know how much BJC charges for shipping, but that's not counting the sleeving, cable pants, and your time to do them yourself, so I wouldn't say it's way cheaper :)

I didn't do sheathing, went with BPA bananas, shrink wrap and they were still about that much. Standard bananas don't fit my mains though, so I kind of had to do it that way. That's with 4S11 too though.

BJC uses priority mail by default so it is pretty cheap.

One thing about soldering onto gold- unless the solder has antimony in it, it won't bond as well as it should. Those and most other banana plugs work very well using the screws and now that the wires have been soldered, it will be difficult to remove the solder completely in the event that you need to change the length.

There's no real benefit to soldering speaker cables, IMO. If I move things or want to change the length of a cable, I want to be able to remove the connectors easily. The connection point is still there, regardless of solder, so signal wise, it doesn't add anything. Strength and guaranteed connection are a benefit (providing the soldering is done well), but not enough to totally warrant the time to do it. That looks like a pretty decent solder job though.
