Does it have any “negative effect” on the player is you press open before the CD is finished playing? or should you press STOP first then open the disk tray?

Use the remote for everything. Less likely to have problems down the road with the buttons on the player.

Open while the CD is playing should cause an implicit STOP; that is if the programmer is of reasonable intelligence. :)

No negative effect on any CD/DVD player that I ever used (Denon & Panasonic) and I do it frequently.

I always press the eject button, either on the player or the remote. I've never had any problems. As mentioned above, any programmer with half a brain would include the "stop" function when the eject button is pushed.

My dvd player's stop button is the open button... It hasn't blown up yet...
