First of all...I'm a Certified Audioholic now! That should say something.

Really though, print magazine are expensive for everybody. Plus, you have to physically have them. I can check out Audioholics from anywhere in the world. There aren't back issues to search for or lose, all of the old content is still readily available. Online mags also allow for cross-referencing links, HUGE pictures of stuff. It isn't limited by the printing quality or size of the page. The possibilites are just much more numerous with the online magazine.

I could go on and on, but I'd say my point is made.

they also weigh a ton and take up valuable space in bookshelves that could be used for DVD's...

Where's the "Both" button. I prefer online but still like receiving my mags so when my wife complains about me being online I can grab a magazine and still ignore her.

I definitely am in the 'both' category.

The web is great, but there is definitely a glutton of products and information out on the web. It's a lot easier to tell which products are at least attempting to be serious by getting their stuff together and doing some advertising.

Also, very few online sites actually are able to do real reviews of products or have anything worse to say about a product than a magazine does. Audioholics, projectorcentral... There are other review sites, but really, the Internet is full of 10,000 sites with manufacturers press and sales releases, not actual reviews.

Consumer reviews online are marginal at best since 90%+ of consumers are just happy with what they bought and never actual put together a serious review or anything serious to point out as faults with their product.

I'll take both - and continue to take them with slightly more than a grain of salt.

I picked 'Both'.

Sometimes it's hard to beat the portability of a mag. Drawbacks? $Cost$, especially when you factor all those ads, you would think it could pay for itself.

But I also like internet based reviews 'cause they take don't up any room like paper. Plus the search/index capabilities is definitely a plus.

I went with both because, online is my first choice but I do check out the mags,

The biggest problem I think about online is the products defects. If you search for a product you are interested in online, you will usually find a good number of posts about a defect that the unit has.

But they neglect to mention it is only a very small number of sets, or amps etc... affected. On the net the problem looks huge cause alot of people are having them, but the fact of the matter is... Those thousands of people that are not having the problem with their product are not online complaining how there TV's bulb blew after 4 days, instead they are sitting down on the couch and enjoying their new TV.

If you guys know what I mean,

On line information is always fresh and instantly available at my fingertips. I pick up mags from time to time when I am traveling for something to read on the plane and hotel room to pass the time. I subscribed to S&V a few weeks ago so we'll see, but at this point I am sold on on-line. I also like the forum portion. Some of the most valuable information comes from that format. It sure beats the tech department at most of the manufacturer sites! ;)

lol, yeah, but do you know how much toilet paper i could buy with the shipping costs, if i wanted to get the magazines down here? :p

I would prefer Online. Of course if the content in both the mags and online are identical, it doesn't matter much.
But usually, if a mag kicks off, and you are getting people to pay for the content (reviews, etc.), why would you put the same content for free on the net? I'm cheap, i know :).

Cheers

Online's good if I want to find something out quick, but it's nice to have a mag to read while the girlfriend's watching crap on the telly.
Sound & Vision makes excellent bathroom reading, too.

I have my subscription with "Home Theater" & " Sound and Vision " , I know they ofter reviews the same product quite oftem, but they have different out come and I vist Audioholics web site weekly ( I would do it daily but I can't ) Magazine vs Audioholics whose the best ? both of them are ! They are the best for what and how they do it because they are not quite they same source; even if they are talking on the same subject ! For me if I would have too lose one of these source I would feel cheating to get only half of the what's realy is out there........Man .....they complete me man....they complete me.......

Both

Web is great for this site and others...they have a wealth of info that would take tons of mags to fill...however, there is something about getting a mag in the mail and sitting down (fill in location) to read it. I get a lot of industry prints that while they have a web site the printed stuff is just well..."Old School" Heck I still like a pen and paper.

I discovered on-line forums this year, researching for my Denon. But my original contact with the product was the review in Sound and Vision. I think both enhance the HTer's background, but I look forward to S&V every month.

Started reading printed magazines when Stereo Review was HiFi & Stereo Review. I have in my library old editions of stereophile including one with a cover picture of Dave and Cheryl Lee Wilson seated in front of the original WAMMS. Have had an email address for almost 20 years. Have been using my current email address @netzreo for 9 years.
