Can the SONY STR-ZA3000ES be used as a two channel preamp?
I have a Yamaha RX A1060.... I would like to use my old Sony as a preamp to power my and R front speakers.
Yamaha suggested:
-With unbalanced inputs
-With volume control bypass (or without volume control circuit)
-Output power: 100W or more (6to8Ω)
I don't know what any of those means or is my receiver is have these.

Thanks for your help,
-Wil (New fan)

Why do you want to do this? Preamps don't power speakers, amps do. Do you want to use the Sony as a pre-amp or do you want to use it as an amp?

I'm going to guess Sony as amp even tho you wrote otherwise, so connect the left and right unbalanced composite rca-type L/R pre-outs using appropriate length rca type male to male cables (neither unit has balanced connections anyways) from the back panel of your Yamaha to any pair of composite L/R rca type inputs on your Sony (pick one, cd/tv/aux/video) and use that input on the Sony (you may need to assign it to the composite input). You'll have to find a good place to leave the volume on the Sony and then let the Yamaha control it. Or vice versa.

My Yamaha is my main A/V receiver.

My Sony ZA3000 ES it's just going to wasted. No one wants to buy it because it doesn't have DTS:X, HDR or Dolby Atmos....I paid $1500 for it new 2 years ago.
So I wanted to use it as an integrated amp to take the load off my Yamaha.
