Pre-wiring new house with fiber optic cables

I am building a new house in Santa Cruz, California. I am an AV novice at best. I do want to choose and install a new AV system into my house that connects to my home network. I am going to run CAT6 wires as well as rated speaker wires through the walls but it was suggested to me to also run fiber optic cables thoughout the house as well to cover "THE FUTURE".
I am looking for advice, opinions and resources as well as any other help you can offer for my whole home system.

Much appreciation

Dave

I cant give you great audio advice as I am also a novice at all of this, however I can talk to you about cabling. Cat6 is capable of running at gigabit speeds, cat7 is also on the way soon and will be even better. The main use for fiber optics is the distance limitations of cat5 or cat6, 325 feet I beleave and that is to include both patch cords, one at the router one at the computer. Fiber Optics is expensive and a specialty item. You do not need it in your house. It is more than likely that most home systems will go wireless. I work on fiber optic, cat5E, and telephone systems on a daily basis. I would NEVER waste money on fiber in the house.

Future wiring

As for the future, they have chips in production and standards in the works for wireless HDMI connections. So in the future, you might not need wires.
I think that Cat6 and 14/4 speaker wire is a good option. If you want to distribute video to different locations, run 4 RG6 coax for component video and digital audio.
