Pre / Pro for a NAD C272

The Pioneer 918 VSX is going in the house. The wifemate wants it to replace the old Pioineer SA1280 in there now. Finally got it sounding great with the 4 jbl's and now she wants it for the HD tv. (jbl 29av's are staying in the shop. I really like them a lot. oK I love them). I agreed that it is a good idea. Also opens the gate for me to upgrade the shop stereo a little.

I found a good deal on a NA C272 power amp I can not pass up.
What is a good match for this amp under $500? Will be running 4 jbl 29av's.

Thanks,

Rich

it is time for a Padron 1964 and a Shiner 100.

I have been doing some research and found that there are a lot of pre /pro and AV recievers that will do the job but it is hard to pick one.
I am looking at the used market and found:

Rotel rsp 960ax. Very nice but not sure if it has digital coaxial inputs. With a unit like this do I even need them. No FM tuner.

OUtlaw 970 does have the digital ins. Has FM

Adcom GTP 750 also has digital ins. Has FM

Even with the lack of features the Rotel is very tempting.

Between this site, google and ebay, I have learned a lot in a short time.

Later down the road, I will add one more NAD c272 amp to power the other two speakers. I alredy have a cosmic strom laser projector and fog machine in the shop. This lil hotrod shop is gonna be rock'n.

Now the AVR's
Denon AVR 3805, used
HKk DPR 2005, used
Yamaha rx v663, new

I am leaning towards the Yamaha because I am a typical cheap Scot.

The Outlaw and the two NADS sound very very good. I hooked up my laptop to it via a Behringer "U-Control" box optical out to the Outlaws optical 4 in. I couln't believe my ears. Never sounded better. Me so happy now.
Thanks for all the help.;) It's been like telephone sex with a deaf girl.

This could easily apply to probably any amp, but I got the C 272 along with a C 162 pre/pro to drive my Wharfedale Opus 3s a year and a half ago. I've been very happy with it, until the amp started making an annoying buzzing sound that goes on an off in approximately 1 second intervals. It's not super loud if I'm playing music at a decent volume, but I can tell it's there.

I had been leaving it on non-stop, so I started shutting it down when I don't use it, and that solved the problem for a few months. However today, it won't stop. Any other ways to trouble shoot before I consider spending the $ to try to get it serviced?

Unfortunately, this is common with this model. Having stepped in this puddle myself, I say don't throw good money after bad, just replace it with something else.

You could fix the NAD for a couple hundred or so, only to still have the inherent temp related issues and short life expectancy.

How much are those Crown XLS 1502 amps going for these days? That's a bombproof amp with more power than the NAD.

Good to know. I am more inclined to get something different, as the only authorized NAD dealer is Deltronics. I had a bad experience with them years ago and vowed never to go back. I see new Crowns of that model for $359, quite promising! I just have to check measurements to see if it'll fit.

It looks like the 1002 should have enough juice for my 6 ohm 300W speakers.
