Pre-Outs or Analog Out?

I am looking into the Yamaha 5840 for a new low price receiver. I need Pre-Outs so I can run the output to a second Amplifier that is built in to my Home Theater speakers.

The manual says it has "analog audio output" jacks (1 set only). Is this the same as Pre-outs or is this for taping purposes only?

Any suggestions for a different receiver with Pre-outs that won't break the bank?

Thanks in advance,

There are no pre-outs on the 5840. You need to step up to the 5860 in order to get pre-outs. You may still be able to pick up the 5700 series that the 5800 series just replaced pretty cheap. If you have Best Buy around your area it might be worth a trip, otherwise there are plenty of Authorized Yamaha on line dealers selling the HTR series receivers. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info.

This may sound stupid, is there any reason I can not use the line out for a tape deck to hook-up a second amp?

Line out is a fixed level output that is not controlled by the volume control of your receiver. So, you lose the ability to change the volume by using the volume control on the Yammie remote.

Otherwise - no, no reason at all that I know of.
