Pre Out, Main In Jacks?

Hello All,

I have an older Denon DRA-625Ra receiver that has been most faithful through the years. It is still going strong and I want to install a pair of active subs in the living room and hook them to the receiver. The receiver has a pair of jacks at it`s rear that are labled " pre out/main in jacks". They currently have shorting pins installed, as they have never been used. The manual has some confusing info about these jacks and I`m writing to ask if this is where I hookup? I repeat, the integrated amps in the subs are going to run the show, but they need to be fed a signal, perhaps from these jacks? If not, then how?
Thanks,
Richard

Yes, that is where you run your subs from. You can run left and right RCA interconnect cables from the pre ou to the sub input. Then from the output to the main in jack. This will use the sub crossover and feed only the frequencies abov the crossover to the main speakers, if that is fine for you, or th elow driver is not very capable in the main speaker.

Or, you can run 2 Y- splitter, on eend into the main in and the other with interconnects to the sub. This way, you have full frrequency to the main speakers and the sub will take what it needfs only.

Hello Again,

This is aimed at everyone, and in particular Mtrycrafts
I really should tell you exactly what I want to do with this receiver. I want to run my four satellites from the A and B channels at the receiver. Simple enough. And if I hear you right, Mtrycrafts, then go from the pre-out jacks to the integrated amps at the sub cabinets, using two y connectors at the pre-out to get four rca cables to the subs. This way I`ll be just using the receiver amp for the satellites and dedicating all of the sub amps power for the down and dirty subs. Leaving the main-in jacks alone. Am I on? Or, is there a simpler way?
Thanks,
Richard

Do those satellites have built in amps?

The pre out's will; not drive speakers, They will drive a power amp.

If you intend to use the internal amps in the receiver, be sure that you maintain that connection on the receiver. . A pair of "Y" connectors with at least two males (to maintian the existing path) and whichever is most convenient to get the signal to the other stuff. I lean towards a female for the third myself. That way a standard interconnect witw 2 males is all that's normally needed. Finding an interconnect with a female end is not as easy.

This is getting interesting
Is this one of your receivers/integrated amps just for the rear speakers? Do you have another? I thought this was old so I doubt it is set up for surround sound? Or does it have surround sound capability?
Now I am getting confused :(

The receiver I have is an older Denon four channel, stereo, 70W/vhannel, no pro logic or surround capability. The sub amps I`m referring to are mounted at the back of the sub cabinets and have low and high level input, along with low and high level all pass outputs. Also, a 50hz to 100 hz adjustable low pass 12db electronic crossover. I want to use the two 12" sub drivers, powered by the sub amps, crossed over at about 50hz by the electronic c/o within the sub amps. The four monitors will use the A and B channels from the Denon receiver without a capacitor inline. These speakers have a F5 or F3 figure of about 50Hz so even a simple 6db cap. is not needed. It seems that I need two Y adapters to connect to the pre-out/main in jacks! Then to the inputs on the sub amps. I`m still confused about the pre-out/main in jacks. Do I plug the Y adapters into the pre-out jacks and do nothing with the main in to get what I want? Or what do you think?

OH, thanks, better picture in my mind. ;)
What was stated still holds true. You can use a y splitter in the front two channel pre amp. one side of the Y to go to the main amp in. The other side of the Y with interconnects attached, goes to the sub left and right input. You are set.
