Hello,
I wanted to check some of my conclusions when using available pre-amp outs on Denon AVRs
such as AVR-X3600H,4500, 3700, or 4700.
1) Use of the pre-amp outs without disconnecting the internal amp to utilize the cleaner output voltage from the pre-amp outs, doesn’t really achieve better (cleaner) sound when using an external amp. Your better off using the internal amp as long as it can drive the speaker load and volume you need. Plus there is little gained in reducing heat generation from the internal amp when using pre-amp outs unless the internal amp is disconnected and the AVR is in eco mode.
2) If I use an external amp to run an AVRs 2 front channels and disconnect the internal amp to utilize the cleaner output from the pre-outs – then connect the external amp (say an emotiva with150 watts/ch) having 45 watts per channel more power than the Denon internal amp of 105 watts/ch, I really don’t achieve better (cleaner) sound unless I am driving my front 6 ohm speakers to very very high volume levels. Or is the additional wattage going to the other channels from disconnecting the front channels result in better system sound ?
3) I’m a big believer in additional fan cooling for AVRs (ie. Aircom, cooler guys, or others). If I use any of the above mentioned Denon AVRs to drive say a 5 to 7 channel system using only their internal amps, and I’m driving (all) 6 ohm speakers in a medium sized room at reasonable volumes (sometimes higher) while using additional fan cooling – everything should be fine.
Please comment on my conclusions and if they are correct or not.
Thanks ensco.
