Pre-Amp and Amp or Reciever....Which is Better?

I just bought some second hand paradigm reference studio 60 v.2's to replace some speakers I blew i while ago, and now I need to replace my old receiver becuase it doesnt have enough power o/p for the 60's.

The system will be set up in my room (13'x11') and wont be used for home theatre only personal music listening (hiphop if it matters). I already have a 10" 150W ENERGY sub and plan on buying two more smaller speakers (mabye something like studio 20's) and want to run them at the same time.

I would like to be able to play music from a CD player, turntables w/ fader, and direcly from my laptop because I also make beats.

Im not familiar with recievers or amps or the difference between them so my question is whether a reciever or pre-amp w/ amp set up would be best suited for what I plan to use these speakers for. Also prefered brand's with the most important specs to look for would really be a big help in helping me pick the right product.

Separates would be better in terms of sound quality and flexibility Each box is doing less work, so it can be tailored to doing it better than having everything in one box. A pre/pro and amp also allows you to use whatever amp you want. The general problem with pre/pros was previously cost, because it used to be that you would be looking at about $2K minimum to go this route, but recently, some independent dealers have come out with low cost separates such as Outlaw and Onix that are under $1500 for both.

A seperate has no inherant superiority over an integrated system so far as sound quality. However, a seperate is far more flexible, and I highly recommend seperates for this reason.

If you do not need a remote control, I will recommend any number of Adcom preamplifiers off of ebay. They are quiet devices(very low noise floor) and are made of high quality components. You can purchase some of them for around $100. Combine this with a Behringer A500 amplifier(a very powerful and versatile amplifier, at unbeatable price of $180). If you want remote control, then good quality preamplifiers[of which I am aware] will be much more expensive than $100.
