Power cable suggestion?

I am looking to buy a power cable for my Arcam receiver (AVR350). Can anyone recommend a good power cable?

Welcome to the forum!

From the images that I saw online, that receiver appears to take a standard three-prong power cord. If you happen to have a spare around (say, from a PC), that would work. Otherwise, you can order them online for very little money. Monoprice.com is a good place to get cables, including power cords. I haven't looked at local shops for those, but I bet that you could find one there, too.

For example, here's a six-foot, 14-gauge cord from Monoprice for about $3 before shipping.

Yeah, I thought about that, too. :) But, sometimes people just need a cord that works and don't know what/where to get one.

Welcome.

What happened to the cable it came with? If it didn't, get one as suggested.

Thanks for the welcome.

It did come with one power cable supplied, however the person I bought this from highly recommended using a third party power cable for improved performance. I know this topic is quite debatable. Some feel it makes an improvement, while others don't think it makes any difference. I would like to see for myself if I can detect any audible improvement. I was curious to see which brand or model anyone having an Arcam receiver or preamp here might be using with their setup.

Yes. One that's long enough to reach both the receiver and the outlet.

Well, some like to debate just about anything in life, no? ;):D

As to the cable, it is a waste of time and $$$.

You really thing that component maker doesn't know enough to supply a proper cable with it? If so, time to look to a better company then.;)

The person you bought it from has no idea what they are talking about. Feel free to find out, but don't spend big dollars on doing that since there's no difference. Know which power cords they use in a recording studio? Not expensive, esoteric, third party ones.

Keep in mind that people in this audio hobby will spend big $$ in the hopes of hearing what they want to hear, and there are many willing to offer them products to satisfy their wishes.

Google the words "puffery" and "hyperbole".

Peruse this site for some examples of what people will pay for in the belief that it will improve their listening experience. This one is my favorite.

Good luck, but just make sure you can return it for a full refund, then listen critically with your ears, not your desires. Our minds can be very convincing when they know we paid big $$ for something.

I think you'll have to ask elsewhere to get some cable "ordained with mystical enhancements". I might be able to run a monoprice cable down to coastal SC. There are still some pockets of people practicing the "old arts"!
Seriously, consider:
1) The Arcam's internal wiring is plain old wire.
2) Your household wiring is nothing special.

Assuming the cable really does something, you are essentially (to use a plumbing analogy) putting a run of 2" pipe in the middle of two runs of 1" pipe. Either way, the ability of 1" pipe dictates how well the water flows.

Oh My God! Why didn't you post that link before?

I've just ordered up the Teleportation Tweak and had them target it at this thread. Everybody watch what happens, because I don't think there's any way to return it.
