power amp for Sub and wiring from stereo

Hi there,
Firstly can I just say thanks for the great information I've been able to get from this site. Just want you all to know that it's REALLY appreciated, however as useful as it is this is a bit specific and different to get general info from other posts. So this is the deal:

I'm wanting to hook up a sub to my speaker system (I do lots of home recording so have some very desent (if flat...but thats what I need) main stereo speakers (100w rms each side) coming out of my specialist recording sound card (8 in 8 out deal). But as I said I want to hook up a sub to this for listening to music and dvd's and stuff. It's fine when the output is in surrond cos my sound card lets me route things any where and I balance stereo mix and then send the sub to my sub(actually my bass amp at the moment) but I've got hold of a nice 12" 400W 16ohm driver and want to hook it up for stereo use.
I'm cool with building the speaker box cos last summer I built my self a 2X10 cab for my bass amp but it's the wiring i want to ask about(I'm no electronics expert but have plenty experience soldering cables and my bass speaker cab):

How can I take my a signal from my 2 stereo outputs from my sound card (1/4 jacks-non amplified) and take out a signal for my (to-be-built) sub?

What power amp would you suggest for my sub? (I'm thinking second hand cheap thing-I'm on a budget)

Do I need to sort out a low pass filter?

Any suggestions appreciated!

mtrycrafts,

Why would I recommend it if it went out of business? Before you posted this question you should have looked yourself.

I was looking around at that site, and I found a bose system review. It was a typical bose system review, where they chose classical music for the audio test, and blabbed about the main unit and not the speakers.

I don't care what the status of that site is, but I am not using it for audio advice.

Sheep,

TVBBass asked a specific question to something he has. I gave him some information to help him out with his question. A positive response to help the guy. Your response is nothing by negitive, and doesn't offer any help, or information to TVBBass. So why don't you, and your 5 posts just mind your own business, and run along somewhere else. Are you just lost up in Canada with nothing to do, so you come on this forum, and post stupid responses?

I wouldn't exactly trust a review source that touts Bose sound as anything but garbage. It is NOT room filling. Blah. I don't need to riterate what so many else have said. And what's wrong with Canada? They have a lot more open space, nicer people, and they turn out some great speakers and electronics (Paradigm, PSB, Axiom, Blue Circle, Bryston, etc...).

Get a dedicated subwoofer amp like this one (a used one off ebay is fine, too), and hook your two stereo 1/4 jacks to the subwoofer amp. You should be able to get a 1/4 to rca cable at Radio Shack for around $5.

Jumping to false conclusions, are you???
How do you know I didn't look? Certainly not from my post as it isn't a statement of fact.

How about YOU take 5 days off while you think about the finer points of being more considerate towards others and not jumping to conclusions? You are banned for 5 days.

Cheers, that looks like the ideal solution, cant see many going on ebay but I'll keep looking.
Cant find a supplier in UK for new ones either? the shipping would be rediculous from america so if anyone knows where they're available in the UK please let me know.
Thanks
