I have a pair of in wall speakers in my home and a set of outdoor speakers on my patio, I have the option of a 3rd zone but then I would have to buy a 2 channel amp.. :/

Can I run them both from Zone2?

I probably wouldn't try that if I were you. Short of your amplifier "complaining" about low impedance by shutting down, the sound quality probably won't be very good. You better plan on another amplifier for that 3rd zone to work properly.

You could also consider getting a speaker selector box. That way, you could run both of them off of Zone 2. I was just looking at this one ($33 at Amazon) that claims to have an impedance protection circuit that allows you to run multiple pairs at the same time. I don't know anything about that part, but the reviews are good. Plus, you could always just run one set at a time, and the receiver wouldn't know the difference.

but just for light listening, or ambient music, it should be fine.

There are also other companies that make amps like this... Speakercraft, Niles, Yamaha, etc.
