Possibly buying a Denon. 2910, 2900 or 2220? Why?

Just like the title says, I'm trying to figure out which Denon I want to go with. Depending on how I like it, and my final decision reguarding my Bravo D2 order... this will either be my main DVD player or it'll be saved for my smaller bedroom theatre.

I hear the 2910 is having lots of problems that the firmware isn't helping, and that it's actually better to find a 2900 or a 2200.

The 2900 is more expensive then the 2200- but I'm not sure I can figure out why, or if it's worth it.

Little help? What would you get out of the three? why?

According to my sources, I can get a 2900 for around $490, and I can get the 2200 for around 300. The 2910 I'd have to shop around for online, so I'd be looking at the same deals you guys are (i.e. crutchfield's $650 unit).

Thanks.

I have the 2910 and I've had no problems whatso ever for music or movies. I can only compare it long term to the 5900, but the 2910 cycles much faster on startup and changing discs, and has minimal (if any) noticeable difference in the picture quality (in fact, the 2910 may have a *better* picture).

Bryan...what can I say? It's been a good source for me...

Sam, Can you be a more specific? Most people posting on this site have been happy with their 2910's and I don't recall reading about any problems. Maybe a link to another site where people have posted problems? I'm looking at buying this player and would like to see some specifics. Thanks.

Sure thing. I know I did the same thing the first time I started seeing people with problems on their Bravo D2 DVD players- I was JUST about to pull the trigger and place an order when I started seeing massive complaints.

Right now I'm looking and posting on 7 different forums, so forgive me if I can't find the *exact* threads that lead me to make that statement... I believe it came from the folks over at www.avsforum.com - but I could be mistaken. I searched the forum for 2910, and ended up reading no less then 20 posts within the first few pages of search results (granted these weren't every thread, and it wasn't in a row) that detailed people who were having problems with their 2910. Each one spoke of a desire to sell/trade their unit for one of the earlier models (2900 or 2200 depending), or their desire to get out of Denon entirely.

My appologies if my memory is incorrect and this was on a different forum- or the intent of the posters was not to slander the 2910... I'm simply relaying the impression I got from hours of reading and reading.

Anyone else have thoughts to add?

You'll find most of the problems relating to the 2910, after firmware upgrade to fix some issues, are very dependant on the device connected to it. I've had the 2910 now for 4 weeks, been playing around with it to get the best pq via calibration (DVE) and find that both the video & audio have given my system new life. It's mated with a 2805 and the combination is superb.

Yes, there have been some problems - and point me in the direction of one product released that has not had any problems - but in the majority of cases you'll find the people posting -ve stuff about the 2910 are also doing that for just about every other unit they have tried as well. When you consider the qty shipped worlwide, I think the "dis-satisfaction" rate is very very ery small indeed.

Simple solution - get one to trial with your display device and check it out, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Ahhh, but there is a better version....

OK, nuff said all around about good, bad, this, that, etc. but if you REALLY want to see what your Denon 2900, 3910, 5900 can do, go to www.underwoodhifi.com and click on mods and find out what the best sonics out of your current unit can change your whole attitude about Denon in music or films on the audio side of the equation. They take the stock units and really do first class upgrades to everything and they go from good midfi sonics to some of the finest one can obtain, anywhere at any price.
