Poor video quality with VGA

I wanted to get better video with my 360 while playing standard DVD's. So, I bought the VGA cable. But, the picture is not better, it's worse. My TV (Mitsubishi WS-55511) is a few years old and I notice at the VGA port it says it supports resolution 640X480, 60Hz. To me, that seems low. Is it possible that connection my 360 to my TV with VGA is not going to work? Or, am I doing something wrong with the settings?

That's an SD resolution, so you're not getting any benefits using the VGA cable. If that's the max resolution for the VGA port, you are probably better off just using the standard issue component cables.

What's wrong with the component video signal? It should look superb. obscbyclouds is right, if 640x480 is all the VGA ports supports then it's only going to look worse. Make sure you're plugging the Xbox into the "DTV" component input. The other two inputs do not support high definition signals.
