I just called this place http://www.listeningpost.com/ and I guess the guy was not to helpful! I told him my Price range and he told me his witch was $400-and UP
It was a Denon 6.1 1705 I think he said? I was looking at the VSX-1014tkx and the JVC RX-8040B and he also said that he would not buy from the internet, he started to talk about the watts how not true it is with some companies and that watts are just a number! So can anyone help me out here I have no idea now what to do, does anyone trully have any of these I mentioned? I would love to have a 2,000.00 receiver but I really dont think I need that! $400.00 is my limit because I think I can get something very good with that price range, I have an old JVC709x I think thats what the model # is? Its like 12 years old!

Thanks for any thoughts!

Personally, I'd never deal with this guy again. It sounds like he was being very pushy and trying to get you into a higher money bracket...keep in mind, he only cares how much that benefits HIM, not you.

Is $400 going to get you top of the line? No. But can you get a decent receiver at a really good price? Absolutely, without a doubt. I've searched a few for you that I think could be solid in your price bracket:

Pioneer VSXD914K
http://www.audioadvisor.com/store/productdetail.asp?sku=PIOVSXD914K&product_name=VSXD914K 6.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver

Denon (b-stock from an authorized reseller)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39793&item=5763908178&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Onkyo TX-SR602
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39797&item=5764012367&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

I'm sure there's a host of others that I'm leaving out, but what I'm really driving at is that, if you have $400, you have $400. And that's it. So spend what you can. Any of the above would be great and could serve you well.

Also, at that price point, used is a good option. Check eBay after you've researched some receiver and definitely check Audiogon:

Hope this helps.

You can get a Denon AVR-1905 for under $350 before shipping. It is a 7.1 receiver, with component video and up converting. I'm personally going to be getting this one soon.

Hows the sound of it vs. the Yamaha RX-V550? as the newer models V557 will have component up as well and should be right around the same price point.

I really seem to not like Onkyo and Harmn Kardan, I guess its becuase everyone has one and talks big about them? Do any of you know the True Power of the receivers that I am talking about getting. Do you know of anyone who has one, have you heard it!? I have Pioneer in my Truck, I have had Pioneer really all my life and my JVC receiver is 12 years old and the only thing thats wrong with it is the Rear is to low sometimes! I have BBE hooked up to it in enhance the sound because without that I would have returned it when I got it! I am wondering too maybe I should just get another amp? If I have to wait Iguess I willbut I am a person that wants things NOW!

Also check out the hk avr 235, about $350.00. But it only has one set of main speaker outs, if that is an issue. I think the hk is better for music than the similar priced yamahas but yamaha may be better for ht, especially if you like all the dsp modes.

Vegaman - what about speakers? You are listing A/V receivers, and it sounds like you already may have some speakers with your old receiver. But, I just want to make sure. Onkyo isn't totally killer with stuff, but they have excellent value. Some of the lesser expensive Denon & Yamaha receivers are a great buy.

eBay and a few online sites can also be a valuable service when you are trying to get the most bang for the buck - if you are willing to assume a little risk.

Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39801&item=5763588444&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
If you can swing 100 bucks more, is an excellent value and provides you with a $1,000 receiver for far less money.

OR: http://search.ebay.com/htr-5790_W0QQsofocusZbsQQsbrftogZ1QQfromZR10QQcatrefZC6QQsatitleZhtr-5790QQsacatZ-1QQcatrefZC6QQsargnZ-1QQsaslcZ2QQsadisZ200QQfposZ22079QQfsopZ1QQfsooZ1QQcoactionZcompareQQcopagenumZ1QQcoentrypageZsearch

Which seems to be selling for about 400 bucks flat can provide you with a 800 dollar receiver for half that price.

Not everyone will encourage eBay, but on a budget, looking for the best... it's a very good way to go.

If JVC RX-8040B is still a consideration www.jr.com has the unit for sale for $300.00. They are an Authorized Dealer and have a 30 day return exchange policy. Add $28.00 for shipping.

I have not heard any of the receivers that you are looking at but can say that you should not overlook Harman because everyone has one. They are a great value.
