Which setup would you choose, if you had to choose 1...
1. $600 - Polks $350 from Newegg: Fronts: Polk M20, Rears: M10 Center: Polk CSM + $250 TSC T250 sub

2. $549 - TSC TSBLT-HT Home Theater Package

Thanks!

I've never heard any TSC speakers, but I always liked Polks, so I say go with the Polks.

they probably are a fairly even match, but you can try the Speaker Company setup for 30 days in your home and return (keep every bit of the shipping material when you open the boxes) them if you do not like the results.

From what I understand, TSC has a very generous trial period, with free shipping both ways if you’re not satisfied with their product. With that in mind, it wouldn’t hurt to give them a listen.

I'm leaning toward The Speaker Company setup. From reviews I've been reading they are very good for the money and in general, much better than any speaker sold in the big box stores. Sound good to me! Plus with the 30 day return period it seems like a no brainer.

Just do it. If you don't like them send it back. If you do then keep it and move one. This is very simple.:)

Anybody here have The Speaker Company speakers and would like to comment on them? Are they better than the Polks you heard at BB or something else you have?

I don't want to waste time with the Speaker Company if they are not any good. Being at home to receive speakers and potentially sending them back is not simple.:)

Why not just give them a try? I mean, what do you really have to lose? Order them, demo them, and see for yourself. After all, no one knows better than YOU what YOU prefer right? The good thing is you can demo them in your own home. If you don't like them, just send them back. All your really out is a bit of your time that can pay off BIG time down the road. Those Polks you are considering are decent, but are a bit on the bright side AND can sound quite harsh due to break up at higher volume levels. Good luck in your decision. Nothing like making a well informed decision. ;);)

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks once again for your replies. If I gave them I try, I wouldn't need to come here to audioholics and ask the experts questions about them. What fun would that be?:) Everybody keeps saying try them, but I'm not interested in trying them, I'm interested in hearing about what other people think about them, not about The Speaker Company's 30 day return policy and how I have nothing to lose.

Okay I can provide a little bit of input, but I don't have much experience with good audio gear, so please keep the salt handy. :)

I had recommended the tSC P6-PR's to a friend based on the reviews on this website. I listened to them myself, and both my friend and I think they are very good. They blend very well with the 10" sub he also purchased. They are a bit brighter than my ELT525M's and x-sls's (nothing surprising), but the midrange isn't as smooth and rich. They didn't sound harsh, though.

Do keep in mind that none of this is based on a fair A/B comparison in the same environment, so again, sprinkle some salt.

In full-range mode, and I thought bass was a bit lacking, but since the speakers blended so nicely with the sub, this wasn't a problem for my friend.

Full-range mode? I didn't even know TSC had full-range models.

One should run very few speakers full range.

 I just ran the bookshelves in 2-channel mode without a sub, what's the harm in that? You're making it sound as if it's blasphemy to run a full-range signal into speakers not rated at 30Hz-20KHz.

Sure they won't give you anywhere close to the bass output of a tower or a sub, but for music I don't care about that all that much. I bought a sub along with my ELTs, but I sometimes prefer to just run them on their own, and they sound incredible.

The Tsc's did seem to fall a bit short though (could've been room acoustics), so you might want a sub with them.
