How do the Wharfedale 9.6 towers compare to the Polk Audio Rti 10 and Monitor 70?And also what is your view on the Mordaunt Short 908 towers ??

The Guy who sells me my av equipment highly recommends the Wharfedales, but ive heard many say it is one of the brands which has gone down over the years and in the present day isnt that good!! My geographical locations restricts me as i cant listen to both but he said he would try and arrange for me to listen to the polks atleast.

Any comments, advice, remarks, help will be very much appreciated

Thanks all you audioholics ...This is a great site !!!

The RTi's will blow away the Monitor 70's. I know nothing about the other brand!

The M-S 908 are a stunning speaker, I've heard both the 906 and 908. I rate them much, much better than the Wharfedale 9.x, however Wharfedale is also an excellent speaker brand. I feel that Wharfedale in the US is very overpriced for what they are - look at the UK prices of both speakers and you'll see what I mean. Haven't heard the Polk's, can't comment.

10 inch Side Firing Woofer vs 2 seven inch Drivers

Finally got a opinion on the mordaunt short, are they any more people who have any more suggestions on wharfedale 9.6 or the on mordaunt short 908 ??

hey kay thanks for the reply

.....The mordaunt short 908 and the polk Rti 10 are almost at the same price here ..........what tempts me is the 10 inch side firing woofer in the 908, i think that wll give me very good bass ?? Am i right to say the 10 inch Side Firing Woofer is a big plus point in the 908 over the Polks two 7 inch drivers for the low frequency ??will it give me deeper bass ??.....The other two concerns are sensitivity and wattage

Polk Rti 10 - 89db,20-300 w/channel
MS 908 - 90db,15-150 w/channel

I've got the RTi10's running through a Denon 3805. You won't get the same bass out of two 7" woofers as you will one 10" unless you are driving those 7" with a separate amp. The RTi10's are wonderful speakers, but they really deserve a separate amp to obtain the proper bass you're most likely looking for. I think they're rated up to 300 watts per speaker, which is doulble the MS908's. Therefore I would recommend the MS if you are only planning on using a high end receiver to drive them.

Mid Line Recievers

Have a look it has 10 inch Side Firing Woofer :-

http://www.mordauntshort.com/products/avant908.html

I want to you to know as of the reciever i cant afford something more than the Denon AVR 2105, H/K AVR 335 or maybe the Onkyo TX-SR603, these are the ones im considering. I don think im gonna add an external amp cos i cant afford it and hardly any of them are available in my country <Bad Geographical Location hardly any electronics are available here all are imported in>

There is a poster here who actually deals Wharfedale. I can't remember his name, but he could give you better insight into the wharfedales. I believe the Pacific Evos may be closer to the other 2 that you are looking at than the diamond series. The Evos are the line between the diamonds and the high end Opus. I have heard very good thing about the wharfedales, and will have a chance to audition some in the next few months, but that won't help now.

I have heard the Wharfedale Evo-30's and really loved them. I agree with Buckeye, the Polks seem to be the best speaker, but will require substantially more power to drive properly. The M-S Avant 908 will go much better with the receivers you listed.
