I've had my eyes/ears set on Polk. RTi8(fronts), CSi5(centre[currently have]), FXi3(surround) and Velodyne DSP-12B(sub). I have also heard good things from Axiom. There are no dealers in London that have Axiom's so I am not able to compare between the two. I see that the Axiom's would be easier to drive, Polks are power hungry. Has anyone compared the two? What are the differences between them? bright/warm, etc. I would more than likely be running the speakers with the Denon 3805 or HK 7300. Any ideas, opinions would be appreciated.

I have the 3805/Polk RTi10/CSi5/FXi3/RTi4 7.1 setup and it sounds wonderful. The Polks are thirsty, but with either of the receivers you are considering, it's not an issue. The RTi series are some well made speakers, and are extremely heavy. IMO the Denon is warm, but my room is "dead", so I don't experience any brightness in my system. Room acoustics would be more of a factor than anything. The HK will be even warmer than my Denon if you happen to have a "live" room, or one with hard floors and walls. As far as Axiom, I've never demo'd them, but based on reviews, I've heard nothing but good things.

If you go to www.axiomaudio.com you will find a pretty active forum. Axiom will also allow you to try a pair of speakers on a 30 day trial, with the small risk of paying return freight if you don't like them.

As they (Axiom, in Dwight, Ontario) are located about a 3.5 hour drive from you, I will bet you find someone close to you for a system audition, too. They are a friendly group of guys.

Axiom is more well rounded, Polk is stronger in HT then music.

Possibly, but if you put the time into setting up the eq parameters as well as the room acoustics and speaker placement, the RTi series will blow your socks off. I don't know if that's true with their more recent lines. You should hear my RTi's with smooth jazz. The RTi series have extrememly smooth sounding soft dome tweeters. These speakers only show off when driven with ample power.

Cant go wrong with Axiom

To test the quality of the stuff I got just the M60ti mains. Dude these things shake my walls. I am so happy with them that I went ahead and purchased the center and surrounds to complete the system. I highly recommend Axiom. And then there is the excellent return policy, cant go wrong with that.

Cheers.

Axiom Surrounds

I have the Axiom QS8's as surrounds in my system, with Def Tech 2000 towers, center and subwoofer. They are great speakers, excellent with home theater (especially music dvds), and surprisingly good with DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD's, formats which usually specify direct radiating monopole speakers for the surrounds. The QS8' woofer/midrange fires from the top and bottom of the speaker, while the two tweeters are on angled baffles. This really gives you tremendous immersion in the soundtrack or music.

My dad has

Sony STR-DA1ES Receiver
Polk RT800i
Polk CS245i
RadioShack Lineum 180 degree tweeter In Walls
Velodyne CT120
JBL PB12
Denon DV2910 (should be running soon need to setup)

And it sounds really great but I always felt that the Polks sounded better for movies then music.

Thanks for the input guys :) . I'm more of a movie watcher/listener than music. I think my CSi5 is great and I'll build around it.

Steer clear of Toshiba DVD players if you are looking for something musical. My dad and I setup the new Denon DV2910 and woah big difference in the audio. Biggest difference is it is no longer harsh on the mid range and top end. Toshiba player I have sounds like total CRAP when I play a DVD-Audio disc in it now.

I'll second the "no-Toshiba" reccommendation. After experiences with their other electronics, my nickname for Toshiba is "ToCheapa".
