I have an Onkyo TX-DS494 reciever from a few years back (was using for just stereo in an apt). Recently moved and got 2 RTi10's for $500 (Crutchfield) which seemed like a good deal. Am not planning on going full HT route due to wires, looks, etc. but want the speakers to sound good for music. Am plannng on adding a center to punch up dialogue for movies but am not into really serious movie watching. Wondered between the 8's and 10's but wanted more bass for music and movies w/out going to a sub.
Have read that the Rti10 lacks mid-range and need power. My receiver has only 55 watts RMS though it seems pretty clean and distortion free to my level of listening. Something seems missing when listening to stereo (CD) - the sound doesn't sound as "full" as i would have thought given the number of drivers, cabinet size, etc. I know that size here isn't everything but I'd previously had some EPI 100's (old!) which were smalller (bookshelf w/8") and sounded pretty decent. Any thoughts out there as to whether this percieved lack of fullness is a characteristic of the speaker or whether I need more power in a receiver?
If a receiver is recommended, which one? I got the idea that Yammies are out for Polk. I don't listen at high levels and have just a mid-size room. I just want decent music (not overly critical listener) and better movies than provided through the Sony tube tv and stereo fronts.
Thanks!
