I have had my vintage RTA-8t since 1988. The upgrade bug has hit, but I'm starting to wonder if it would be an upgrade at all. Basically, I'm seeking to beef up the bass a bit and mellow the highs with a more even-keeled natural sound. My primary aim is enhance music sources as opposed to using as a HT setup (it will serve dual purpose for the time being).

My original intent was to simply grab a nice, small and tight sub such as the Energy esw-v8 (higher end Veritas line) and call it good. But, then I thought, why not switch out the vintage Polks with a decent monitor such as the Paradigm Mini Monitor to get what I want out of the mids and highs.

The room is pretty small at 15'x13'x9'. I have bookshelves spanning the entire wall, and although not optimal, the Polk floorstanding speakers are sitting on either end of the span sideways at ear level while sitting, as I can't quite squeeze them between the shelves and wall on either end of the unit. I'd really rather not put them in front of the shelves, as real estate is premium.

Thanks for any thoughts...

I personally would spend the extra few bucks and get the titans, I have the mini monitors and have had them for 2 years and I have the upgrade bug. I think the titans have a more full sound that you will greatly appreciate and is worth the extra couple hundred bucks. As far as a sub goes that is all up to you, from what I have heard all over these forums you can't go wrong with an HSU, SVS, or velodyn sub. Don't get me wrong the mini's are nice I just wouldn't want you to spend that money and get the bug again later. best of luck to you hope this helps you out a little.
