Polk RM6750 Vs RM75

Hey guys,

Hate to trouble you, though I'm looking for another affordable speaker set due to damages mine have suffered via... people breaking my *$@!.

I was trying to compare the Polk RM6750 set, which I own, and now am dealing with a damaged Center and surround left. I could either pick up another RM6750 set, or I've found a seemingly good deal on RM75:

Any guidance with this would be really appreciated for years to come. Just trying to weigh all the pros and cons.

Hey Faustblix,

That sucks to hear that other people trashed some of your speakers.

As for replacing them, it looks like you have more options than buying entire new 5.1 sets. Crutchfield.ca has a lot of different individual Polk bookshelf and center channels that may be the same model as your damaged units. If that doesn't pan out, my recommendation would be to go with the RM75; no need to replace the entire 6750 set if the RM75 is the cheaper route. Just grab the sub from the 6750 set to integrate into with the RM75 and away you go. Plus the RM75's bookshelves are of higher quality than the 6750's imho (had the chance to listen to them at a Futureshop demo room, not ideal I know, but better than nothing...)

If your interested, you could also explore other options in that price range; checking out some of Emp Teks product specials could net you a very solid speaker set for around that amount of $$. I made the jump from Polk's RM6880 set to the F300 Series 5.1 package from Emp Tek and have enjoyed the change immensely. Thats just one vendor offering products in that price range; if you are in the mood to look around I am certain you could find many other product offerings that offer great price/performance.

Regards,

Bill

Thanks Bill. I'm definitely going to scope those out. I wonder too though how the Infinity Primus 5.0 set (that audioholics has on sale) stands up to the Polk sets referred to. Would you still stick with the Emp Tek over the Primus?

I can't say that I have listened to the Infinity line-up; the big difference that would be noticed by going with an Emp Tek set up would be the inclusion of another sub. I hate to reference ratings when advising on a purchase, but the difference is quite substantial as the subwoofer from the RM6750 is rated down to 45hz, while the Emp Tek is good down to 30hz. I noticed a huge jump in performance making the switch between the Polk sub and the Emp Tek sub.

Having said all that, the Primus has a great reputation on these boards and elsewhere. If they would fit into your decor better, and you are either happy with the current sub/were willing to grab a separate sub from SVS via Sonic Boom or Axiom, I would go for the Primus as the Emp Tek require a certain kind of room before they don't stand out.

In comparison to the Polks, the only reason to go with the Polks is the size difference. The Polks will be a lot smaller than either option; if that was one of the major drawing points to them originally, then I would break out the tape measure before purchasing something new and confirming that whatever you end up with will still fit.

Regards,

Bill
