Yamaha, Onkya, Denon, ect.. Any receiver should work, really. The only real difference you'll see is slight power differences and features. Just find one that has all the features you want and go for it.

I was thinking about a HK, but the specs show like 50-70 watts per channel. Any insight on that. Will that be enough?

Yea, ~ 60 watts would be plenty enough for ya. A HK reciever will soud great on those speakers.

BTW how much did you pay for those R30's?? I got a pair of R50's for $85 new each.

Any major brand of Receiver is going to work with those speakers. The Polk's are relatively effecient and easy to power.

Speaking of power, it takes double the power rating (i.e go from 50w to 100w, or 100w to 200w) to have an audible difference in sound volume, and 10 times the power (ie 50w to 500w) to approximately double the sound volume.

In other words, don't get all worried about this brands 100w receiver being louder than that brands 75w receiver. If their is a real difference between the brands, it will take much more difficult speakers to resolve the difference.

Find a brand that you like in terms the outputs and inputs, design of the display, reliability/warranty, as well as the all important remote control, and buy it.

By the way I own a Denon, but I would have no problem recommending HK, Onkyo, Yamaha, and Pioneer to anybody that is looking for a receiver.

Thanks for the reply's,.. I bought the R30's for 50 bucks each..I ended up buying four. They sounded great in the store (connected to a five thousand dollar reciever).

I had an Onkyo system I belive it was the six speaker Hts-760. It worked fine for about 3 months....Then subwoofer hum.
I couldent get rid of it..I tryed unpluging everything, sending it out to service, subwoofer filters for the AC, evrything. All and all I sent it back to circuit city and they told me nothing was wrong with it. I knew it was the Reciever because the sub worked fine IN THE STORE....Ever since then I'm scared to buy Onkyo recievers, even though when it did work it was a fantastic reciever.

Now I'm looking for the Ultimate Movie experiance on a Middle class income. I have my heart set on either a HK or a Yamaha. Plan to buy on Ebay. I have no frigin idea of witch is the better because I've on ly heard them in the "store enviroment" with high end speakers.

Which Denon do u have, are they all created equal ....so to say (quality of sound)???

Subwoofer hum, could have come from one of the many ground loop problems, such as a common problem of a poor fitting RCA connection. For any possible combination of reasons, subwoofer cables seem to be stressed (pulled, yanked, repeatedly reconnected) more than any other cable, and, due to the often long physical run of the cable, is more prone to noise leakage from close proximity to power cables etc.

In otherwords, hear a subwoofer hum, start with the basics and look for a cable problem.

I have the Denon 2805. Was going to buy the 3805, but the car needed 4 new tires ($185 per tire), it turned cold and I needed a new winter coat, my exceeded my diet coke budget, I visited Red Lobster for snow crab legs one to many times that month, and somewhere I decided that I did not like the 3805's remote, so I ended up with the 2805.

Is there a real difference between the 2805 and 3805. Yes, features. That is it, no sound quality or performance issues. And outside of Denon Link, there really aren't big significant feature issues. And those few watts per channel are there just to impress the guy who thinks he can actually hear the difference between 90db and 90.5db (he can't, it take approximately 3db to have an audible difference).

By the way, the only difference between a Yamaha, or Denon, or HK etc boils down to features and how easy those features are for the user to access or use. Like the styling of the unit, like the way the remote works, buy that brand.

My suggestion is always buy from a reputable company. A company that the manufacturer is proud to have sell their products and fully supports the seller with factory warranties and support. On line sellers, with a few notable exceptions, do not meet those requirements, and the number of sellers that sell on auction sites that meet those requirements are even farther between. Denon has a list of authorized sellers. Good list, great prices. Full warranties and support. I would only suggest buying from the authorized dealers, some of them sell online, a few of them might sell on auction sites as well.

Thanks for the responce.
Like you I imediatly thought it was a grounding problem with my ac or cable line...but then I thought when I first used it no problem existed. I then bought a sub-woofer surge protector/hum eliminator.....nothing....then new lines......nothing...The system was haunted with inferior technology. I later bought a 100$ koss piece of cr*p system ...it has not failed me once. The lack of features is anoying but it is only for da bedroom. The only thing I really like about it is the internal amp for the sub(on the reciever). I hooked up two 12" Audiobahns in a bandpass box, hooked them up in series to 6 ohm and gollie gee the bass is imense....shakes the dishes in the kitchen.

But when it comes to HTiB I will never buy again. The horror.

Now I fall short one Center chanell speaker, sub, and ohh yes a reciever to complete the system..

Do you think the lower end recievers such as the Hk 135,235 and denon 685/1750 will have a good sound to them ( in comparison to the big boys,...............I dont need features just 5.1 and good sound.)

I was going to go with Yamaha but heard they sound a bit high pitched.

Comparative priced equipment is generally going to be quite competitive in sound quantity and quality.

regarding the Yamaha. The setup, settings, and room accoustics could have played such a big part in the sound of the unit, therefore I would not condemn the brand.

Personally, I like the entry level HK stuff. Always seems generally well built and clean sounding. I have not heard the entry level Denon's but based upon the brand reputation, I would not hesitate to buy them as well.

One way to evaluate receivers is to connect the source (such as a DVD). Place the source on pause (no output of signal), and crank the volume to nearly max.

The amount of background noise the receiver amplifies will be quickly revealed.

No receiver is perfectly clean. Then again, neither are separates.

When you want to judge the basic quality of the receiver, check the amount of tuner leakage, external signal leakage, power supply and other component noise that the receiver is amplifying. You will hear the noise as hiss.

The mid range units (starting at about $400 list) from most manufacturers are surprisingly very quite compared to $1000 units from 10 years ago.

Thanks. I never thought about checking for noise like that. I have found a HK 235 for 320 shipped, but they sold out. I asked for a raincheck, they said no. I'm waiting for a good price to come up.

I love how the new HK's look, the sound isn't too shabby either.
