Polk Atrium 45 or Infinity Outrigger Jr Outdoor Speakers

Hi everyone,

I want to set up some outdoor speakers in the backyard - I will mount them to the wall of my house just under the soffit. The listening area is just the deck area, say 20' x 20'. I am just looking for some decent budget speakers to run through to my receiver as Zone 2.

Looking around for sales, I have come across the Polk Atrium 45's and Infinity Outrigger Jr's on well discounted for the same price. Info on the Infinity's is a little scarce - would anyone strongly recommend one of these speaker sets over the other?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Greg

I have the Atrium 45's in a setup like the one you describe. I have had them for about 3 years and they seem to be holding up well against the elements. Sound quality is decent but like any speaker this size bass is light. They have a lower sensitivity (89db) rating than some other speakers so having an outboard amp will help them play louder and not stress your receiver as much.

Hey, thanks for the advice! If the bass is a little light, that's not the end of the world. My backyard isn't huge, and I want to be able to listen to music on a regular basis without pissing off the neighbors. I just want decent sound quality; I'm not expecting the same sound as my indoor system.

I will probably go fro the Atriums, they have been fairly extensively reviewed. The Infinity's piqued my interest because at list, they are a fair bit more expensive than the Atriums, but are on a huge sale to bring them down to the same price. I know that doesn't mean much, but it's hard to ignore. Without any decent reviews or recommendations, I guess I will probably end up staying away from the Infinity's.

Cheers,
