Many times computer headphone jacks are very noisy. If I connect my laptop to anything but headphones I get the same terrible effect. I would suggest you pick up something that transmits a digital signal to your receiver. That will eliminate the noise issue. This is something I plan on getting when I have the budget available for HT stuff again (too much going into school ATM):

THen just pick up a TOSLINK cable and you're good to go.

any computer sound card with a digital out will work, I go with an internal card, they usually, I said usually, have cleaner sound than a usb sound card

so your saying i should get an optical cable to go into my 6.1 sound card then into my receiver?
