Plugging a Logitech sub into my 663

I have an Epik Valor on order and I wondered if my Logitech sub that I use with my computer would work as a fill in till it arrives? It is aprt of a 2.1 system (says Logitech THX on the speaker I think).

I don't even know if it is the right kind of connection (I am not home right now but the question just came to me). I wouldn't want to blow it up or damage the reeiver.

Your opinions are welcomed.

a speaker is a speaker

you could connect the Logitech sub. You mighh have to get a convertor plug from mini audio to RCA

Yep, that will probably work, but just don't push it too hard or you may bottom it out if playing some really deep stuff. Meaning, don't crank up War of the Worlds and be surprised if it struggles...

Thanks Guys!

I am holding off on WOTW until I get the Epik :)

The Athena's have a pleasant bass but a little more would be welcomed just to get a glimpse of what it will sound like when the Epik arrives.

I am sure RS sells the adapter (which I can confirm I need when I get home).

Roll on mid-May!

Well, compared to a "normal" sub, I wouldn't expect great things, but it won't hurt to try it :) (or will it....:D )

I have the 663 and also a Logitech 5.1 system (Z-5500).

I currently have 2 Sierra-1s (Which are absolute money :D), but I wanted to have a 5.1 running until I get the Sierra Center, 2 170s, and a sub.

The logitech sub has the amp on the back of it, and all of the speakers plug into the amp, then the amp connects to the preamp, and the preamp has mini plug-ins.

I tried to do the mini-rca from the logi to the preouts on the 663, and I got nothing. YPAO only detected the 2 sierras.

I would have liked to use the 2 sierras and then the logitech speakers and sub to complete the 5.1 just to hold me over. But to no avail.

OP, if you get the Logi to work with the 663, can you tell me how you did it?

Thanks,

Matt

Sorry for the delay in responding; life got mental all of a sudden.

Matt, I found the same problem you did and said f*%k it, I'll just wait for the Epik to be delivered :)

At least the cord from RS was cheap!

Hmmm, so I guess it is very specific about the type of input. It may be that a voltage mismatch won't allow it to work correctly - it is expecting something with a low voltage output so feeding it a higher voltage line level voltage it either shuts off or doesn't know what to do with it.

J Garcia is right. The sub out from the receiver is going to be passive and the logitech is an all in one amp with a built in crossover. You could try running the headphone out to the logitech sub and the sub would process the lower frequencies and put it out. Or at least that's what i'm thinking would work atm, just some sort of amplified line into the sub.

oh and i'm not responsible for any damage done to your sub :D
